Day 5

Today was Sunday and the second day of the ACTT retreat. The Mwanza staff had organised for us all to spend some time at Wag Hill Lodge on the the shores of Lake Victoria. This was about a 40 minute drive from the ACTT offices.

Robert picked us up mid morning and we then passed by the office and picked up Thomas, Hamisi and Mbusiro and drove out to the Lodge. The lodge has a lovely view of the lake and there are plenty of activities on offer. We were the first to arrive and so decided to do hike around the grounds with a local guide. Robert was slightly worried as to what we had let ourselves in for, when the guide handed us all walking sticks and we started up a rather rough track. It did actually turn out to be quite hard work but we did see some camels, impala and zebra as well as some nice birds and good views of the lake.

When we got back to the lodge the others had all arrived and lunch was ready. The lodge has a lovely deck area down by the lake, where we relaxed and watched the wildlife until lunch arrived.

After lunch Bruno spent some time talking to us all and getting us to talk about ourselves and each other. It was a good team bonding activity. After that the staff gave us a gift each.

We then handed over the key rings and playing cards then we had bought for each of them.

The formal part of the afternoon finished with Robert announcing the winners of the HP (High Performance) Awards. These were awarded to Japhed,

Winnie and Vai,

Bakari,

and then the first prize went to Justina.

After this we all went on a boat ride on the lake. It was really fun and so nice to actually be out on the water. Everyone went, even Mama Irene was persuaded to come, if somewhat reluctantly!!

Once back on dry land Bruno had organised a few staff games and then we left the lodge and drove back to Mwanza to a bar called Rock Beach where we had a few drinks to finish the evening.

Robert dropped us back at the hotel about 10pm and we then spent the next hour or so packing for our trip to Geita tomorrow before retiring to bed.
